General Science

During years 7, 8 and 9, pupils develop their understanding of science through practical and relevant topics such as “Chefistry” – where they explore chemical and biological concepts through cooking – and “Electricity and Magnetism”, where they learn about electrical circuits, voltage, current and the properties of magnets. Through practical activities, scientific investigations and group discussions, they cultivate key skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, working independently and collaboratively, as well as developing scientific literacy and numeracy. The curriculum encourages curiosity, creativity and inquiry, preparing pupils to understand the world around them and make meaningful connections between science and everyday life. When studying GCSE Science (Double Award), pupils do not receive separate grades in each subject, but rather one combined grade that encompasses Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Biology

In the GCSE course, pupils explore how organisms work, grow and interact with their environment. They learn about cells, body systems, heredity, evolution and health, developing skills in investigating, analyzing and evaluating biological information in real-life contexts. A-Level Biology explores living systems, from biochemistry and cell structure to heredity, ecology and human physiology. Pupils study topics such as biodiversity, homeostasis and evolution, with optional modules such as immunology, neurobiology or musculoskeletal anatomy. Practical work is central to the course, fostering research and review skills that are relevant to further study or careers in health, life sciences or the environment.

Physics

As part of the GCSE course, pupils explore forces, energy, waves, electricity and the universe. They use scientific methods to measure, model and explain physical phenomena, developing strong mathematical and analytical skills. A-Level Physics explores the fundamental laws of nature, from motion and energy to electricity, waves, fields and nuclear physics. Pupils study real-world applications through optional topics such as medical physics, sports or energy and the environment. The course develops strong mathematical and problem-solving skills, with practical work supporting understanding and preparing pupils for careers in science, technology or engineering.

Chemistry

For GCSE, pupils learn about substances and their behaviour – including chemical bonding, reactions, Earth’s resources and sustainability. They develop an understanding of how chemistry is relevant to the modern world, including energy production, plastics and clean water.

A-Level Chemistry focuses on the structure of matter, chemical reactions, and principles that underpin industrial and biological processes. Pupils study topics such as bonding, energy, kinetics, organic chemistry and oxidation reactions. The course includes practical assessments and data analysis, preparing learners for further study in chemistry, medicine, engineering or related fields.
