Mathematics and Numeracy

During years 7-9, pupils build a solid foundation in mathematics by exploring a wide range of topics including number, shape and measure, algebra, data and probability. The schemes of work encourage the development of logical thinking skills, problem solving and independence through practical activities, challenging tasks and modelling strategies. Pupils are supported to progress through the school’s mastery levels, developing confidence and deep understanding of core mathematical concepts that underpin their future success.

During the GCSE period, the focus is on mastering core mathematical skills such as data handling, algebra, geometry and number. The curriculum prepares pupils for two qualifications – Mathematics and Numeracy – with emphasis on applying knowledge to solve real-life problems. Through the use of applied tasks, structured exercises and formative assessment, pupils develop their ability to reason in detail, communicate clearly and respond confidently to mathematical challenges. These skills are essential for academic success and transferable to a wide range of fields in the future.

In the sixth form, the course develops detailed understanding of advanced concepts such as calculus, trigonometry, and mathematical modelling. The learning nurtures skills in mathematical analysis, reasoning and communication, preparing pupils for further study or the world of work in STEM fields and beyond.
