class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn accordance with the New ALN Code, all pupils at Penweddig have equal opportunities to develop in accordance with their ability and the Department has an effective system of identifying and assessing the pupil\u2019s needs as well as promoting his educational progress. The Support Department aims to contribute to the effective delivery of the curriculum at Penweddig Community Comprehensive School, enabling all pupils to participate in all aspects of the curriculum and reach their full potential. As well as working closely with the families there is also close working within the school with other departments and the management team and with a range of outside agencies.\n\nThe needs of individual pupils with the family are analyzed in order to ensure a strong and effective partnership for the benefit of the pupil. As a department we emphasize that \u2018our door\u2019 is always open to any pupil or parent who feels that they want to discuss any issue relating to the pupil\u2019s development. All children will have the right to a broad and balanced curriculum including extra-curricular activities and full access to the Curriculum where appropriate. All children are valued and their self-esteem promoted. It\u2019s a simple summary of what is important to someone and how they want to be supported. The pupils also get an opportunity to socialise with pupils from schools around the county.<\/p><p>Specific \u2018Play Unified\u2019 sessions are organized for ALN pupils on a weekly basis to develop pupils\u2019 sporting skills, sporting experiences and confidence.<\/p><p><strong>Life skills<\/strong><br \/>The life skills course follows the ASDAN scheme. The ASDAN scheme offers qualifications suitable for ALN pupils. The course has been tailored to the individual pupil considering the pupil\u2019s aspirations. The course includes the following:<\/p><p><strong>Relationships with Industry<\/strong><br \/>Additional Learning Needs Work Experience Scheme \u2013 Year 10 to 13 Pupils.<\/p><p>The pupils have the opportunity to spend a period in a work placement as part of Ysgol Penweddig\u2019s Life Skills course. They have the opportunity to learn about order, discipline and the working environment outside of school, and we hope that this will help them bridge the gap between school and work. We are very grateful that so many of the local employers are willing to collaborate with us in this way.<\/p><p><strong>Caffi Gegin Cynnes<\/strong><\/p><p>The department has developed a cafe for the school\u2019s Staff. The ALN pupils take drink orders and serve the drinks. The pupils\u2019 shop for the goods for the cafe and keep a record of the profits. The ALN pupils succeeded in winning the \u2018tenner challenge\u2019 national competition for their business im 2022. We are proud of their success.<\/p><p><strong>Charity Work<\/strong><br \/>We have held a coffee morning to raise money for Bronglais Hospital as part of the life skills scheme.<\/p><p><strong>Visits<\/strong><br \/>As part of the course the pupils have the opportunity to attend the town library, the National library, supermarkets, local shops, the cafe, the beach, the prom and the town in order to build on pupils\u2019 life skills. We also encourage pupils to use public services such as buses and trains.
